“Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation is so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Sumner Smith Events & Design for our 2020 Statewide Partners Dinner at the Tennessee State Museum. This special event is an annual celebration of our early literacy mission and the statewide partners and donors who make our work in Tennessee possible. The 2020 dinner was the first time that we have hosted the event on our own and was a special occasion as we announced the expansion of our mission and a name change of the Foundation; Sumner and her team made the evening one to remember.

Sumner listened to our goals and ideas for the event and perfectly made our vision into a reality. After our first meeting and conversation, she put together an amazing vision board, and we knew we were in good hands. Within weeks, Sumner and her team assembled a portfolio of lovely flowers, décor, drapes, etc. We received wonderful feedback on how professional and creative the decorations were, especially the flowers, lighting and the large balloon structure of our brand mark, a blue book and the tri-star of Tennessee, representing our early literacy mission in the state.
She and her team made the evening run so smoothly and allowed all of us to invest our time during the event with our guests and the announcement/program. That is the mark of a great event planner and coordinator! We were not concerned at all that each aspect of the evening would run smoothly and that all vendors would be on time, set up and operational before and during the event. That is a high bar for us, and she scaled it easily!

“Exceptional Taste & Professionalism:
Despite the fact that Sumner had recently moved to Nashville, I had my heart set on working with her for my Santa Barbara wedding, and was so pleased when she agreed to do it. Sumner was incredible. I chose her for her exquisite taste, great contacts, and organizational skills, but she was wonderful in every way. Our wedding was not easy. We had 150 guests at a private vineyard outside of Santa Barbara that had never hosted an event before so there was no roadmap, no infrastructure, no experience of any kind. This made the planning very fun because it was a blank slate, but it was a lot of work!!! We essentially planted a lawn, landscaped the property, erected an insane tent, installed staging and lighting throughout in order to create the environment. And then we filled it with magical rentals, wonderful food and wine, fantastic music and incredible guests. Throughout the entire process Sumner offered great insight not just about design, decor, layout and flow, but she was critical in anticipating potential problems I never would have considered. Our wedding was a dream come true - it honestly exceeded my expectations in every way. I could not recommend Sumner any higher. I honestly think of her as family - she was such a major part of our magical day and I will be forever grateful!!!”
